One killed in E. Mountain crash

One man is dead and traffic on Highway 14 at Sangre de Cristo was down to one lane in each direction following a three-vehicle crash Friday morning.

Erin Kinnard Thompson of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office said 80-year-old Grant Montgomery of Tijeras was driving southbound on Highway 14 attempted to turn onto Sangre de Cristo when he was hit head on by a northbound vehicle.

When the two vehicles collided, one of the vehicles hit a third car that was stopped at the Sangre de Cristo intersection.

Kinnard Thompson says that a helicopter was dispatched to airlift Montgomery to a hospital, but he died at the scene before it arrived.
