A twice daily traffic bottleneck will be gone next week as crews Friday were wrapping up the year long construction happening at San Mateo and Interstate 40.

The $42 million project rehabbed the stretch of I-40 between San Mateo and Carlisle and forced drivers to contend with lower speed limits and lane closures.

The project, which began last year, was supposed to wrap up next month, but crews worked ahead of schedule, meaning the orange barrels should be gone by Friday afternoon.
