A suspected burglar is hospitalized Saturday after he was shot by an Albuquerque police officer.
The incident occurred Friday night when police found the man inside a home near 98th street and Dennis Chaves.
The suspect is expected to make a full recovery, and police say he could be responsible for a series of burglaries in the area.
Police say they went to the home on Sandy Spring when a security alarm was tripped around 9 p.m., Friday.
When police arrived, they found a man inside.
Police say when the man reached for something in his pocket, they shot at him and hit him in the torso, but that didn't stop him from trying to get away.
APD Spokeswoman Nadine Hamby said, "The offender then fled, exited the home and ran going through other yards, back yards and side yards going about a block and a half from the original residence."
Police eventually caught up to the suspect and he was taken to UNM Hospital.
Police aren't saying if the man was armed.
When the suspect recovers, he will be charged with residential burglary.
An investigation is being conducted to see if he can be tied to any other crimes in the neighborhood.
