Bernalillo County investigators have made an arrest in a beating death that happened in early February in Albuquerque’s South Valley.

Sheriff’s department spokeswoman Erin Kinnard Thompson says that 46-year-old Christopher Sanchez had been a suspect in the death of 36-year-old Louie Maldanado early in the investigation.

In recent days, though, investigators were able to tie Sanchez to the scene through blood on his boots, according to Kinnard Thompson.

Maldonado’s body was found in an alley behind a Lotaburger at Isleta and Barcelona on February 7.

Investigators at the time said that Maldonado suffered severe head trauma. They have not released a motive for the homicide.

Sanchez has been charged with an open count of murder.
