KOB.com, New Mexico’s #1 news website, seeks an experienced journalist to join our team. This position manages non-stop coverage of the news during the critical “prime time” period of the work day. Key responsibilities include writing and editing news stories, providing up-to-the-minute coverage of breaking news as it happens, and working closely with KOB’s news reporters, producers and assignment editors in gathering facts and presenting the best news coverage online. Editing and posting video clips, managing live video feeds of breaking events, and producing images for stories are also part of daily responsibilities.
A minimum of two years experience and a college degree in journalism or related field plus computer skills are required. Our producers must thrive on breaking news, juggling numerous tasks and must be able to create high-quality news content under strict daily deadlines. Drive and ambition to win in a competitive environment are essential. Candidates should also be able to look past the text of a story and find ways to make news coverage stand apart from the competition. They must also be versatile in social media, with sound journalistic sense about how to extend kob.com's brand on social platform.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Strong editorial skills and sharp news judgment are a must. Candidates must possess excellent writing, copy-editing and computer skills. Working in a fast-paced newsroom requires the ability to multi-task and manage time wisely. While this is not a web design position, understanding of some basic HTML and use of Adobe Photoshop is needed. Candidate will be expected to take a leadership role in getting social media such as Facebook and Twitter to be a reflex for our reporters, anchors, and photographers. Candidate will be required to think 'outside the box' and enterprise Web-only content with reporters, anchors, photographers, and producers. Candidate will likely be asked to shoot video at breaking news with traditional camera or iphone. If open to it, candidate will be trained in newsgathering from our helicopter, Chopper 4.
