Albuquerque Public Schools is responding to news one of its teachers was charged with driving with a blood alcohol limit more than three times the legal limit.
The school district said Wednesday it will send letters to parents at Harrison Middle School following KOB Eyewitness News 4's report on the arrest of Myrna Arguello, a Spanish and creative writing teacher at the school.
Police records show Arguello, 55, was pulled over Sunday night near downtown after someone called 911 to report a drunk driver.
According to the police report, officers witnessed Arguello's white Toyota Corolla weaving in the lane and pulled her over near 4th Street and Mountain Road NW.
The report states Arguello told officers she had been at Los Poblanos for a fundraiser for Opera Southwest and admitted she had been drinking. Police say she had a blood alcohol content of 0.28 percent -- more than three times the legal limit of 0.08.
Arguello is charged with aggravated DWI, careless driving and driving without insurance.
APS spokesperson Monica Armenta says Arguello was not on company time or with any students. She is currently on paid leave and will go before the districts disciplinary board. APS superintendent Winston Brooks would make the final decision about consequences.
