The Albuquerque City Council voted on the fate of the city's red light cameras Monday night.

City councilors decided on a five-to-four vote to axe the contract with camera operator, Redflex.

The city councilors' decision is in line with the municipal election last month, when a majority of voters recommended the city to do away with the cameras.

The repeal will take effect within 60 days.
