SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - The Senate has confirmed several of Gov. Susana Martinez's nominees to the State Fair Commission although the administration drew sharp criticism for its handling of a lease for a new fairgrounds casino.

Kenneth "Twister" Smith of Cabello was confirmed Wednesday on a 40-1 vote and Kenneth "Buster" Goff of Hobbs was approved on a 30-10 vote.

Charlotte Rode of Albuquerque unanimously won confirmation.

Martinez had tried to withdraw their nominations earlier this week after a Senate committee grilled Goff and other commissioners about a 25-year lease for the Downs at Albuquerque. Critics say the deal was rushed through.

Senate Democratic leaders ignored the governor's request and brought the three commissioners up for a vote.

The seven-member commission is appointed by the governor and sets state fair policies.
