Some parents came forward to KOB Eyewitness News 4 and said their kids have been bullied at the Village Academy Charter School in Bernalillo.
One mother, who didn't want to be identified for fear of retaliation, says a student paid another student to harm her 14-year-old son.
"I believe that they honestly were going to kill him," the mother told KOB Friday.
The mother says she met with school officials, some of the other students and their parents connected to the alleged "hit."
She said one student said that another student, "..paid him to shut my son up."
We talked to other parents who told us their children have been bullied at school too.
The parents say their children were kicked and punched and repeatedly teased.
The school principal tells KOB the school makes sure children are safe.
She says there was no planned hit.
She says the parent and student misinterpreted what happened, saying a student paid another student for some pencils.
The principal says the school has a bullying policy approved by the state.
Friday, we learned that the Public Education Department is investigating the school. O
fficials wouldn't specify why.
A spokesperson told KOB Eyewitness News 4 that residents made some complaints.
