Propped up

Just betting on the winner is boring for the biggest game of the year, why not impress your friends with some scratch on the real action.  Here are my thoughts on some prop bets for this year’s Super Bowl (for entertainment purposes only).

How long with Kelly Clarkson sing the national anthem? Over/under 1:34

I’m going under.  The last four times she sang the national anthem she was under that mark, I’ll stick with the trend.

Will the coin toss be heads or tails?  Always go tails.  Tails never fails.  (for the record, it was heads the last three years.  Just like in roulette, it’s got to come up red sometime, doesn’t it?)

How many times will Peyton Manning be shown on t.v. during the game?  Over/under 3.5

I’m going over on this one, the game is in the house that Peyton built.

Will there be overtime?  Even though we’ve seen some overtime games this postseason, I’m going with no.

What will be the largest lead of the game by either team?  Over/under 13.5

I’m going with under, I don’t see this one as a blowout.

Will the game be decided by exactly three points?  I’ll say yes to this one.  Their last Super Bowl meeting was decided by 3 points.

Will either team score in the first 5.5 minutes of the game?  I’ll say no.  Such a score has only happened in three of the past 10 Super Bowls.  In week 9, these two teams did not score against each other during the first 15 minutes of the game.

How long will the longest touchdown of the game be?  Over/under 49.5 yards.  Under seems like the safe play.  The two teams have combined for only 11 TD’s of 50 or more yards this season.

What will happen first, a Patriots score or a Patriots punt?  I’ll go with punt.

Who will throw an interception first?  I’ll choose Eli for this one.

Finally, who to pick as the overall winner?  While I could make a case for either team to raise the Lombardi trophy, I’ll go with New England.  I just don’t see Tom and Bill losing to the Giants in the Super Bowl twice.  Let’s hope for a good game either way.
