SILVER CITY, N.M. (AP) - Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument is reopening now that smoke from what is New Mexico's largest wildfire has decreased significantly.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reports park officials said Tuesday both the cliff dwellings and the visitor center are expected to stay open to the public.

Authorities closed the cliff dwellings area May 31 because of unhealthy smoke levels caused by the Whitewater-Baldy Fire in southwestern New Mexico.

Park officials say the smoke levels have dropped to what would be considered good to moderate air quality. The cliff dwellings will resume normal summer hours.
