Santa Fe targeting younger crowd in tourism push

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Officials in Santa Fe say the city's tourism industry could suffer if it doesn't attract younger visitors.
The city isn't going after party-age college students.
Instead, a directive up for a vote Wednesday asks the Convention and Visitors Bureau to increase tourism among people ages 35 to 56.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that the resolution from two city councilors aims at generating a trio of events for the age group over the next three years.
The goal is to create them when there are no other big tourism draws, such as the Santa Fe Indian Market or the Traditional Spanish Market.
The resolution comes just before Jim Luttjohann begins his new job as the bureau's director.
Officials say the average age of visitors is 57.
