CHAPARRAL, N.M. (AP) - Dona Ana County Sheriff's investigators have seized 52 cats from a home in Chaparral after the sheriff's animal cruelty task force received complaints of ill cats in and around the home.

Authorities say 21 of the cats were so ill they had to be euthanized by the sheriff's staff veterinarian.

The remaining cats were taken to a shelter. Investigators say 62-year-old Charles Gonnell and his wife Sherrie face 115 charges, including 11 felony counts of extreme animal cruelty.

There was no phone listing for Gonnell.
