SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Gov. Susana Martinez will be in Grants and Gallup today to distribute books to first-graders and to sign an agreement with the Navajo Nation today for the sharing of education information.

Martinez says the aim of the memorandum of understanding between the New Mexico Public Education Department and the Navajo Nation is to improve education results for Navajo students.

The governor also will visit Mesa View Elementary School in Grants and Indian Hills Elementary School in Gallup.

On Monday, Martinez marked the opening of the school year in Albuquerque and Belen by distributing books and reading to students in those cities.

In June, Governor Martinez announced the state had purchased over 30,000 reading books to be distributed to every incoming first grade student in New Mexico.
