A Colorado woman is pushing for an online anti-DWI petition here in New Mexico.
The petition is called "Justice for Dimitri" - and it sprang out of a tragedy.
In June, Aileen Smith was seven months pregnant and driving through northern New Mexico with her husband to attend a baby shower in San Diego.
While driving on I-25 in San Miguel County when they were hit by a suspected drunk driver, Ramon Hernandez of Las Vegas, N.M.
The couple's unborn baby, Dimitri, did not survive.
Hernandez pleaded not guilty this month to vehicular homicide and a felony DWI charge.
State records show that he had at least four prior DWI convictions.
Smith is now working with the office of Gov. Susana Martinez to strengthen New Mexico's DWI laws.
The work includes an online petition, which is more than halfway to its goal of 1,000 signatures.
