BP America Production Company is giving $4 million to San Juan College to help build a new facility for students pursuing careers in energy-related fields.

The donation to the San Juan College' School of Energy aims to help meet growing workforce development needs in the San Juan Basin’s energy industry .

The money will be used in the development of a new building on the Farmington campus and state-of-the-art curriculum and training courses in disciplines ranging from natural gas to solar power.

The School of Energy already graduates approximately 250 students a year in associate degree and certificate energy-focused programs, while training even more students in various industry studies.

In addition to BP's donation, San Juan College’s governing board has pledged $2 million toward the project.

BP is the fourt largest natural gas producer in New Mexico, with operations centered around Farmington.
