The shooting death of a parent at a foreign exchange student party in July is now being investigated as a homicide.
The death of Marc Herrera, 37, was initially believed to have been a suicide.
But the Office of the Medical Investigator now tells KOB Eyewitness News 4 that Herrera's death is considered a homicide.
Witnesses said Herrera was heavily intoxicated when he arrived at his Northeast Albuquerque home during a party attended by University of New Mexico foreign exchange students.
Herrera reportedly told the students to move into another room at gunpoint and then took his wife to another.
Herrera then forced his wife to shoot him as they both held onto the gun, police said at the time.
A request for the autopsy report hadn't been satisfied as of Thursday afternoon.
Albuquerque Police declined to comment about their investigation or possible suspects in the case because their investigation is still ongoing. The Department said once the investigation is complete, it will go to the District Attorney's office along with the autopsy report.
