A Santa Fe man called police because someone stole his marijuana plants from his backyard and now, police have opened an investigation on the matter.

The licensed medical marijuana grower told KOB Eyewitness News 4 he was planning on using the plants to help alleviate epileptic seizures.

“I’m totally legal and above the table,” said the man who only wished to be identified as Matt.

Somebody broke into Matt’s backyard and cut down the four marijuana plants that grew there. All that is left are chopped stems.

“You have to lack a soul to steal somebody’s medicine who relies on it to treat a life threatening condition,” Matt said.

Marijuana is the most organic and Matt’s preferred method to keep his seizures at bay. Matt said the joke is really on the thief. The plants had not reached full maturity and had not formed the chemical compound that creates the euphoric effect, commonly called a “high.”

“Basically, they are smoking hay,” Matt said. “Granted the plants look beautiful, but the thieves are going to get anything from it.”

Matt said he is able to get medical marijuana from other legal distributors, and is not sure if he will grow plants on his own again, considering what happened.
