HAGERMAN, N.M. (AP) - A New Mexico state police officer is hospitalized with head, neck and back injuries after he lost control of his patrol car while trying to avoid a big rig that drifted into his lane.

The crash happened Wednesday afternoon on a state road in Lea County.

State police spokesman Lt. Robert McDonald says Lt. Javier Moncada was headed eastbound when a red semi drifted into his lane.

Moncada took evasive action to avoid a head-on collision and his car rolled about three times on the dirt shoulder.

McDonald says the westbound semi failed to stop and continued toward the community of Hagerman. State police are asking for the public's help in locating the semi driver.
