ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (AP) - A juvenile probation officer from Alamogordo is jailed without bond after officials say they found nearly 10 pounds of marijuana in his state vehicle at a Border Patrol checkpoint.

Homeland Security Investigations officials say Saul Velasco was arrested at the U.S. Highway 70 checkpoint west of Alamogordo Tuesday evening.

The Alamogordo Daily News reports that agents say they found 10 bundles of marijuana in a duffel bag in his vehicle. Federal officials allege that Velasco bought the pot near a restaurant north of El Paso and planned to distribute it in Alamogordo.

He's being held at the Dona Ana County jail and is set for a court appearance Thursday.

Velasco has worked for the state Juvenile Probation Office since 2007.
