The man accused of mugging a 10-year-old girl for her backpack and cutting her missed his first felony arraignment in court Thursday because he is on suicide watch at the Metropolitan Detention Center, according to a court official.

Victor Anaya, 47, is charged with robbery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and child abuse.

Albuquerque Police arrested Anaya Wednesday and is accused of harassing elementary-age children while they were at their bus stop near LaFayette and Comanche.

A criminal complaint states Anaya was agitated that the children ran around the front and back of his apartment complex. The report states Anaya chased the children, but when one girl fell down, he attacked her, cut her on the leg and stole her backpack.

When KOB Eyewitness News 4 reporter Chris Ramirez confronted Anaya while police were arresting him, he denied cutting the girl.
