SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - The Department of Transportation says part of a highway leading to Los Alamos will be closed daily during the next two weeks because of construction.

The agency will repave and upgrade two miles of state Route 502 east of Los Alamos.

During the construction, motorists can take the East Jemez Road truck route off of state Route 4 to reach the community and Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Work starts Oct. 2 and the road will be closed daily from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Oct. 6 and then again from Oct. 9 until the construction is finished.

That's expected by Oct. 14. On Oct. 8, Columbus Day, the road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
