Conference logo error concerning for some

A misprinted sign at the Albuquerque International Sunport caused controversy Thursday because it depicted the American flag flown upside down under the flag of a foreign country.
The image was placed on a directional sign in the Sunport’s lobby as the logo for the 30th Border Governors’ Conference, a meeting of governors from the United States and Mexico.
The conference is being held at the Marriott Albuquerque Pyramid North.
The logo is on display in several areas of the lobby, but KOB Eyewitness News 4 learned the correct logo actually places the American flag to the right of the Mexican flag and is placed in proper accord.
"Unfortunately the airport made a mistake in its printing and we apologize for the airport's printing error," New Mexico Economic Development Cabinet Secretary Jon Barela said. We certainly don't mean any offense.”
Sunport staff, however, did not accept blame.
A statement released by Sunport spokesman Dan Jiron stated the sign was “posted in the terminal by officials from the Border Governors’ Conference.”
While KOB4 worked on gathering information for this story, some members of the conference and state officials criticized the station for the story, but a woman at the Sunport offered this reminder:
“People from all over our state and from all over the U.S. have died for that flag and we should respect it always," she said.
Late Thursday afternoon, the Sunport and Barela released a second statement.
It reads in part, “the Sunport and the Border Governors’ Conference regrets the positioning of the circular graphic in directional signs [sic] were understandable[sic] upsetting to some visitors at the Sunport.”
KOB Eyewitness News 4 has learned from a person knowledgeable about the situation, but not authorized to talk on behalf of the Border Governors' Conference, that all the conference's logos contain the error and the Mexican Governor's are embarrassed about the mistake. Also, the company hired to put on the conference is being paid $160,000 for its work.
