Santa Fe Co. reps won't vote on fluoridation

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Santa Fe County commissioners have voted to prevent members who also sit on a local water board from voting to remove fluoride from drinking water.
The commission vote comes as members of the Santa Fe City Council have been considering ending fluoridation that has been done since the 1950s.
Most water used by Santa Fe urban area residents comes from a joint city/county water project and both governments have representatives on its board.
The City Council voted in June to stop fluoridation and then rescinded the vote. They plan another decision on Nov. 14.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that Tuesday's county commission vote came after Chairwoman Liz Stefanics said her board hasn't been consulted. Fluoride is added to water to prevent tooth decay.
