Early voters across New Mexico are encountering a pretty lengthy ballot in this year's election, but help is on the way from the League of Women Voters.
You're not just voting for President and U.S. Senator on this ballot. It includes Congressional races, state lawmakers and all kinds of judges - along with a whole slew of bond issues in many counties and a few constitutional amendments statewide.
Wednesday morning, League volunteers began delivering stacks of its updated Voters Guide to libraries, public buildings, government offices, senior citizen centers and community centers all over central New Mexico.
The guide contains candidate profiles of everybody on the ballot, along with summaries of every bond issue and every proposed amendment to the state constitution. Judith Binder has been working on the guide books since 1972.
"It was a cinch," she said. " It was a typewriter and carbon paper. Now it's all computerized, so it's gotten physically easier but emotionally longer, just making sure those emails go in the rioght direction."
Voters at the state's busiest early vote location, the Bernalillo County Annex at 7th and Lomas in Downtown Albuquerque, say it's more than welcome.
"Oh absolutely," said Tori Shauger. " Because it makes it so much easier. You know exactly how you're going to vote on each one and it just saves you time in the end, so if you can do a little research - great!"
"I think it should be presented before the early election so that you can preview it," said Angie Fincher. "That was my only objection, that there wasn't much publicized or brought out about all of the bond issues, and there were a lot."
Early voting started Tuesday at county clerk offices around the state.
In Bernalillo County the Annex is open for voting from 8AM to 8PM Monday through Saturday. Sixteen other early vote locations will open Oct. 20.
Old fashioned Election Day is Nov. 6.
