KOB to hold debate between Lujan Grisham, Arnold-Jones

This week, Eyewitness News 4 brings New Mexico voters a rare prime-time debate between the two women running to represent the state's 1st Congressional District in Central New Mexico.
It will be girls' night out Thursday in Albuquerque when Democrat Michelle Lujan Grisham squares off against Republican Janice Arnold-Jones at Sandia High School at 7 p.m. KOB will broadcast the one hour debate live, with lead anchor Tom Joles as the moderator.
Lujan Grisham is ahead in the polling. Her lead was a dozen points in last month's Albuquerque Journal poll, and 15 points in her own internal polling released last week.
Arnold-Jones is battling uphill, under funded, with little active support from her own party.
The candidates are clashing over taxes, government spending, job creation, and many other issues.
With early voting under way at Bernalillo County clerk's offices across the state, voters are saying now is the time to see these candidates and hear what they have to say.
"I think people are concentrating more on the presidential election, more than the state, as far as Senators and what not," said Joe Neal, who plans to watch the debate. "Absolutely, to see what they stand for."
"I think they have been debating and I think they've been very good, so maybe that's going to help," said Rhoda Parker, who just learned of the KOB debate. "Good! We'll watch it because I've heard they're good debaters."
Early voting will hit warp speed this coming Saturday with satellite vote center locations opening up, 16 of them in Bernalillo County. Election day is Nov. 6.
