Albuquerque police are searching for a person who shot an Air Force Security officer overnight.
The shooting occurred around 12:50 a.m. in the Maxwell Housing Area just north of the Kirtland Air Force Base, public affairs official Dan Monahan said.
The airman was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition.
The housing area off Gibson Boulevard and Mercury Drive SE was on a controlled entry as police conducted a search for the shooter, Monahan said.
Police also closed Gibson Boulevard SE between Carlisle and Washington, but the area has since reopened.
A police helicopter was in that area circling the neighborhood north of the base throughout the night.
