University of New Mexico football coach Bob Davie suspended two players from the team.  Sophomore cornerback Devonta Tabannah has been suspended for the remainder of the season.  Davie would not specify the reason, but he did say it had nothing to do with any legal matter.

Tabannah was suspended earlier in the season following his DWI arrest.  Tabannah played in four games this year recording five tackles.

While the reason behind Tabannah’s suspension remains a mystery, Davie did explain his logic behind the punishment.  “The best thing for him is to take football completely away from him,” said Davie.  “We’ve invested a lot of time in him, which is fine, but we haven’t gotten much back and he knows that. But it always comes back to ‘Can I trust you?’  I can’t trust him right now so he’s not going to play; he’s not going to be a part of this team.”

Also this week Davie suspended indefinitely walk-on quarterback Ryan Trujillo.  The suspension is a result of a violation of team rules that occurred in late October and Davie recently learned of the violation.  Trujillo, from Albuquerque’s Manzano High School, has not played in a game this season.
