UNM head coach Bob Davie has said all year freshman Cole Gautsche should be redshirting this season.  Out of necessity, Davie had to turn to Gautsche this year.  While the true freshman's had trouble putting the ball in the air, he threw a pair of touchdowns on Saturday.  Gautsche also also became the first Lobo freshman to every rush for 100 yards and throw for 100 yards in a game.

Unfortunately, Gautsche was taken to the hospital following the game to have xrays done on his non-throwing hand.  According to the UNM athletic department, Gautsche is alright.

"I don't know who the other freshmen in this league are, but I can't imagine there are too many freshman players that more deserve to be conference (freshman) of the year," said Davie following Saturday's game.

The Lobos host Nevada this week for their last home game of the season.
