Reaction is pouring in regarding the untimely death of district court judge and former Bernalillo County District Attorney Bob Schwartz.

Schwartz died Monday at age 62 at a Rio Rancho hospital. He had been hospitalized after breaking his leg in a fall and later developed pneumonia.

Former Governor Bill Richardson, who named Schwartz his "crime czar" in 2005, issued this statement Tuesday about the outspoken former prosecutor:

“Bob Schwartz was a crime fighter to the core. As a district attorney and as a judge he always sought rightful justice and protections for victims. As my crime advisor he was involved in significant anti-crime legislation involving DWI “three strikes you're out” and victims relief. He was also a colorful character who loved life. Needless to say he will be sorely missed.”

District Attorney Kari Brandenburg had this to say about Schwartz:

"Bob Schwartz served New Mexico and our community for many years. We mourn his loss and will keep him and his family in our prayers."

Schwartz, a native of Philadelphia, also worked as a columnist, television commentator and stand-up comedian. He is survived by a grown son.
