Sandoval Co. voters outraged over election officials' comments

Some Sandoval County voters were stunned during a County Commission meeting Friday night to hear elections officials talking about the "good" things that came out of long lines during election day.
KOB Eyewitness News 4 is told some people did not vote because they were so frustrated waiting in line and to hear that 'good things' came out of long lines irritated people.
County Commissioner Don Chapman tore into the Sandoval County Elections Bureau Director Eddie Gutierrez and the county clerk.
During the meeting voters rolled their heads in disgust over comments about what went wrong, but people were really stunned when Gutierrez started talking about how good things came from the long lines.
He specifically mentioned how two people met in line and formed a friendship.
"Stood in line for a couple hours and when they got to the table to vote they were telling the poll workers that these two people had just met and they were going out to dinner," he said. "And so, I mean, something good does sometimes come out of something bad."
After the meeting KOB4 asked Gutierrez to clarify what he said.
"Had an opportunity to actually meet different individuals, get to know their neighbors like I said before," he said. "And there were some that actually met and became friends. So something good came out of something bad."
But voter Robert Lopez had a different reaction.
"Well as far as good things coming from bad situations," he said. "Flowers grow real well with manure."
Chapman said it's unfortunate that some people missed out in voting, and said he doesn't want a similar incident to ever happen again in Sandoval County.
