ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A Santa Fe man who pleaded guilty to a having sexual contact with a 10-year-old girl was sentenced to two years in prison.

The Albuquerque Journal reports that 22-year-old Jesus Esparza-Gutierrez also was given credit Monday for having already spent 16 months in jail. Authorities say Esparza-Gutierrez admitted he had sexual contact with the girl.

Esparza-Gutierrez asked state District Court Judge Stephen Pfeffer for mercy and said he was under the influence at the time of the incident.

Pfeffer says he believed Esparza-Gutierrez was being sincere, although he was worried the defendant was minimizing his actions by saying he was drunk.
