The annual Twinkle Light Parade moved from Old Town to Nob Hill this Holiday season. The move excited Nob Hill merchants, but angered their neighbors to the west.
Old Town merchants said it was against tradition to move the parade that had been there for 12 years and that it would hurt their businesses.
But the city made the decision with Nob Hill because they wanted to change various city events locations.
But one Old Town store employee said her jewelry shop is already in damage mode because of the change.
"And I believe that because of where the parade would be, draws attention to the back plaza here and a lot of our other merchants back here. And it kinda affects us. It disappoints us," Christina Bowen said.
But Nob Hill merchants said they deserved a chance to host the parade that will begin after the 16th annual Shop and Stroll.
"We know that it's been in the Old Town area for years. It's an opportunity for Nob Hill to get an opportunity, and get a chance to see the kind of difference it can make for the Nob Hill merchants," Mark Lane said.
The city said another reason they had the parade move to Nob Hill was because of the successful partnership with Nob Hill Main Street's Route 66 Summerfest.
With both the Shop and Stroll and Twinkle Light Parade happening on Saturday, there will be around 30,000 people in the Nob Hill area.
The shopping begins at 10 a.m. and the parade starts at 5:15 pm.
Also Saturday is the 16th annual Shop and Stroll. That runs from noon to midnight. Central will be closed from San Mateo to Girard during that time.
