2 arrested in murder of man dumped in El Malpais cave

Two men have been arrested for the murder of an unidentified man found dead in a cave Saturday at the El Malpais National Monument.

The man was found dead Saturday approximately 60-65 feet down inside a cave in the Double Sinks landmark in the El Calderon Area.

The body was retrieved and positive identification is still pending through the Office of Medical Investigator.

On Monday, Bryce Franklin, 20 and Clifford Bearden, 22, were arrested on the following charges:

- Open Count of Murder (1st Degree Felony)

- Tampering with Evidence (3rd Degree Felony)

- Fraud (4th Degree Felony)

- Forgery (4th Degree Felony)

Both suspects were already incarcerated at the Cibola County Adult Detention Center on unrelated charges.

The investigation was carried out jointly by the Albuquerque Police Department, Grants Police Department and the New Mexico State Police.
