SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Oscar winner Robert Redford is teaming up with a Santa Fe school on a scholarship program for artists and filmmakers.

The program will be funded by the Santa Fe University of Art and Design. Redford will help pick award recipients of the Robert Redford/Milagro Initiative Scholarship Program.

The chairman of the university's film school, Chris Eyre, says Redford had mentored him when he was in film school in New York.

He tells the Albuquerque Journal that the collaboration works well because Redford has been a champion of the arts. Indigenous people can apply for the Unique Voice scholarship that covers the $35,000 yearly tuition, room and board.

The Emerging Artist scholarship is open to full-time students and covers between $7,000 and $15,000. Redford says he's honored to work with the school.
