Police arrested Gilbert Marquez on Friday morning, who they said has been a major thief in the Albuquerque area.

According to CarMax employees, Marquez tried to steal a car from their lot in July. When he could not get the jeep to drive through a gate at the lot, he ran from the store, but video surveillance showed it was Marquez.

Next, in November, police said Marquez broke into a bait car and stole a laptop. APD tracked Marquez with the laptop, but when they started chasing him multiple times, he got away.

But on Friday, police came to the America Best Value Inn and Suites across from the CarMax on Alameda. They wanted to check on an increase of property crime in the area. They spotted a white Dodge Ram they said Marquez had stolen.

When they saw Marquez come out to the truck, he ran away, but police caught him and arrested him.

They found a bag of methamphetamine on Marquez, and also charged him for burglary, possessing stolen items, evading the police and stealing a motor vehicle.
