Roswell police tell KOB they are investigating an interrupted burglary that resulted in one man being fatally shot Tuesday.
That man was Saul Gavaldon Sanchez, a golf pro who grew up in Roswell and was recently living with his family in Denver, City Texas.
The call came in at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the 1500 block of West Third.
Police say Sanchez had been in Roswell to attend a funeral. He walked into the house where he was staying and found a man inside the residence attempting to steal various items.
When Sanchez confronted the man, the man shot and killed him.
The suspect is described as a male about six feet tall - police say he concealed his identity with a face mask and hoodie.
Roswell police say citizens should be informed and aware of their surroundings in the wake of this crime.
The department also said residents should rely on the police - not social media such as Facebook - for information on the crime.
In a news release, the department said: "Certain information posted on social media could be detrimental to the case."
Police ask anyone with information about the crime to contact the Roswell Police Department at 575-624-6770, or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-594-8477.
Crime Stoppers will pay a $1,000 reward to anyone who has information leading to an arrest.
