An Albuquerque police officer who was accused of encouraging neighbors to fight has resigned.

Officer Gregory Donofrio was called out to an apartment complex near San Mateo and Copper in November following a report that two neighbors were arguing.

Police said Donofrio told the neighbors to settle their differences by fighting if that was what they wanted to do.

Donofrio had been on leave until his resignation Wednesday.
