ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Christmas is over and it's time to recycle that tree.

Public Service Company of New Mexico is teaming up with the cities of Albuquerque and Rio Rancho and the village Ruidoso in southern New Mexico to offer free recycling.

The trees will be ground into chips that can be used as mulch to provide a better growing environment for plants in city parks and landscapes.

Residents will also be able to pick up mulch for use in their yards.

Recycling will begin in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho on Jan. 2. Trees are already being accepted at Schoolhouse Park in Ruidoso.

In all, officials say they expect more than 20,000 trees to be recycled at the five sites.

Recycling will also be offered by the city of Santa Fe and Santa Fe County starting Monday.
