SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say a Santa Fe senior center was briefly evacuated New Year's Eve after a man left a backpack under a Christmas tree.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that an employee at Ponce de Leon called police Monday afternoon after a man came in asking for his grandfather, then left the backpack under the tree along with a note that read, "I love you."

Sgt. Troy Baker says a bomb squad removed the bag to a nearby park where it was blown up.

Amid the debris, he says investigators found only remnants of cans of beer and tuna fish, along with a winter hat and gloves. No explosives were found.

An investigation remained ongoing.
