LOS ALAMOS, N.M. (AP) - Los Alamos Police Chief Wayne Torpy is back on the job.

The Los Alamos Monitor
reports that Torpy returned to work this week after taking a medical leave for an undisclosed medical condition.

The 54-year-old Torpy says recovery has not been easy and he will probably be taking some more time off to work with his doctors.

Last month, Torpy notified his staff that he will be out on an extended medical leave but did not give details of his condition. He also told staff he didn't have specific timeline on returning.

Torpy has led the department since 2005 after having served as deputy chief of the Melbourne Police Department in Florida.
