Some Torrance County residents are worried about a possible rifle shooting range near an elementary school in the county.

The Torrance County Commission will meet  Wednesday morning to discuss the range and take public comment.

The range is on Founders Ranch, which is near Route 66 Elementary School.

Parents are concerned their kids could be in danger from the range if it allows more people and bigger firepower to the public range.

People can shoot shotguns at the range currently.

Gerry Baker from the shooting range said parents should not worry.

The school is north of the range and shooters fire to the east into a mountain.

He said the range also has trained range officers to ensure safety, too.

Plenty of opinions will be shared at the Torrance County Commissioners meeting in Estancia at 9 a.m.

KOB will be there and bring you updates from the meeting.
