Gov. Susana Martinez appointed Brett Loveless and Judith Nakamura Thursday to fill the Division III and IX posts.

Loveless will be filling the vacancy in Division III left by Monica Zamora who was elected to the New Mexico Court of Appeals.

Nakamura will be filling the vacancy in Division IX left by Bob Schwartz who passed away last November.

According to a statement from the Governor’s Office, Loveless has served on the Second Judicial District Division VI bench after being appointed by Governor Martinez in February 2012. Earlier this month, a bipartisan Judicial Nominating Commission recommended him for this appointment to the newly created vacancy. Prior to his appointment to the Second Judicial Court, Loveless served as a deputy district attorney in the Second Judicial District Attorney’s office, where he prosecuted major felony cases in the Crimes Against Children Division.

Nakamura currently serves as the Chief Judge of the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court, where she has served since 1998. Prior to her election to the Metro Court, Nakamura spent nine years as an attorney working for a private law firm and the State Land Office.
