Two separate motor vehicle crashes along Interstate 25 disrupted traffic along the thoroughfare Sunday evening.

One crash involved two vehicles on I-25 northbound. One slammed into the barrier just north of the Alameda. A female driver was taken to the hospital with minimal injuries.

That crash stalled traffic for a few hours.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of the accident.

In a separate, but connected incident, a driver did not realize the congestion stemming from the first accident and collided into another vehicle which caused chain-reaction collisions involving five vehicles.

The driver is in critical condition, and due to the age of the driver and her condition, the Albuquerque Police Department Fatal Team assumed the investigation.

The crash closed I-25 northbound.
