SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Authorities purchased 191 guns at the city of Santa Fe's first gun buyback event.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that grandmothers, hunters and young men and woman took the city up on its anonymous, no-questions-asked gun buyback offer on Saturday.

All of the $12,500 in prepaid Visa cards set aside for the first of three buyback events had been used up within the first two hours of Saturday's event. Serial numbers were checked on the guns, and one handgun turned out to be stolen.

It will be put into police evidence, and police will attempt to contact the registered owner.

Police Chief Ray Rael says he'll have to seek more money from the City Council if future buyback events are as popular as Saturday's.
