Albuquerque Police said Monday that a four-year-old girl was attacked by five dogs on the 400 block of 94th St. SW. in the Westgate section of the city.

The girl was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is currently being treated. She does not appear to have any life-threatening injuries but has sustained several significant lacerations.

The dogs apparently escaped by digging several holes underneath the chain-link fence that surrounded the yard. Animal control investigators theorized that Monday's cold wether may have played a role in the attack.

Police arrested two men in connection to the attack. Ernest Chavez was arrested on misdemeanor warrants and Harris Vazzie was arrested on a animal control related warrant. Animal Control was called in to retrieve the five dogs as well as two additional dogs that were not involved in the attack.
