Albuquerque Police made some noise Monday, destroying some of the 20,000 rounds of ammunition they have collected by burning them.  With each pop and ping of bullets and shells, police believe the streets are safer.

The tank police use to destroy the ammo looks like a Bar-B-Q.  Marc Adams from APD's Crime Lab told us, "It was purchased especially to destroy ammo and the thick gauge of the iron does not allow the projectile to penetrate the walls of it."

Police also destroyed some of the 90 firearms turned in by citizens.  They were crushed by a powerful shear.

You can still turn in weapons and ammunition to APD, no questions asked, for the next two Saturdays in January and then every other Saturday for the rest of 2013.
