Former Republican candidate for New Mexico's First Congressional District Gary Smith was indicted by a grand jury on, among others, aggravated stalking and criminal damage to property charges.

The grand jury charged Smith with one count of aggravated stalking, two counts of criminal damage to property of over $1,000, and four counts of injuring or tampering with a motor vehicle.

Smith is accused of slashing a political opponent and former campaign staffer’s tires.

Smith ran against fellow Republican Janice Arnold-Jones for New Mexico's First Congressional District until a judge took him off the ballot for not having enough petition signatures.
