An Alcalde woman who claimed to be defending herself when she shot a man last year is now being accused of murder.
Rio Arriba Sheriff’s deputies arrested Kaiwee Martinez for the death of Lawrence Sandoval. He was shot and killed inside Martinez’s home in November.
Investigators said Martinez told them she shot Sandoval in self-defense after he forced himself into her home.
According to the initial report, the male subject put a knife to Martinez’s chin and told her to take off her clothes in a bedroom. Martinez then reached under a pillow a pulled out a gun. Martinez told the subject she would shoot him.
“Martinez told me she shot him one time. Ms. Martinez stated she got off the bed and ran around the unknown male who was lying in front of her bed. Kaiwee Martinez ran out the back door of her residence. Kaiwee Martinez told me she was scared,” the report read.
Investigator, however, are now saying evidence shows otherwise.
According to our news partners at the Los Alamos Monitor reported that Martinez was employeed by Secure our Country (SOC), the lab's subcontracted security force.
The compnay released the following statement.
“Kaiwee Martinez is employed by SOC Los Alamos (a subcontractor to LANS, LLC) as an Unarmed Security Officer,” SOC spokesperson Liddie Martinez said. “She has been on leave without pay since the day of the incident in November 2012. She has not had access to Los Alamos National Laboratory since that time.”
