Albuquerque Public Schools is investigating whether a student at Chaparral Elementary was the victim of abuse.

According to a school district spokesman, the parent of a developmental pre-school student reported that the child came home with bruises on his head and a scratch on his back.

The school’s principal informed school police and the district’s human resources department – which opened an investigation.

The school district has placed the boy's teacher and an educational assistant on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
